Ultion Smart lock
Ultion Smart Locks what is all about ?
Lockforce Locksmiths Leeds have seen a huge increase in demand for smart locks, from Smart fitting and questions and enquiries into what they do and how this new technology works.
Many manufacturers have attempted to create smart locks however many have had reliability issues and many have sacrificed technology over security and insurance standards. The Ultion smart lock may have just ticked all the boxes.
Firstly the Smart lock is protected on the outside of the door by a Police Approved 3 star lock which has been tried and tested and features a secure lock down mode should the lock be attacked. The Smart Lock can of course be operated like the conventional way using the key to open your front door, this was a big factor as other systems such as the Yale Conexis do not have a key override and should the technology fail or batteries fail you are rather stuck and stranded outside of your home, not want you want on a cold winters night. The Ultion smart locks batteries are reported to give 1.5 years use and a battery indictor is displayed on your app so the fear of battery failure and the back up of a key does set the Ultion Smart in a league of its own.
The major big attraction to the Ultion Smart technology is that is compatible with the main platforms such as Apple and Amazon.
If your door has handles the smart kit comes with very slick design brushed metal handles in 5 colours such as white, chrome and brass. The Handles are curved in design and have added security with reinforced screw bolts. The technology is all housed in the inside handle. If your door has a escutcheon format in other words it does not have a handle the Ultion smart kit for the Escutcheon model has a very attractive escutcheon that is both secure and stylish and sleek.
So how do you operate this system without a key? We all now use smart phones and the app can be downloaded in minutes and it is very easy to use. The app is very bold and designed for ease of use, setting the door system as you see fit, the majority of customers we have fitted the Ultion Smart lock for have used the system to open and unlock the door at a touch of a button on their phone, others have it set up to open as they approach the door even without touching their phone, very handy with a bag full of shopping.
Other amazing uses are twist assist this is very good for people with mobility issues in their hands or the elderly, remote access from afar, unlimited users and fantastic add on such as keyboard entry that talks to the smart technology excellent for care homes, business users and codes can be easily changed on the App.

What are "Insurance Approved and British Standard locks" and why do you need them?
Okay this is a big one for two reasons!
Firstly - When taking out home insurance, most insurance companies will have in the small print that your locks must meet a minimum security standard. If you are not meeting this criteria you could invalidate your insurance in the event of a break-in.
Secondly - British standard locks are much
safer and secure than a standard factory fitted lock. They are tested to replicate wear and tear over time and also against the most
common methods of break ins. Unfortunately most new build houses and new front or patio doors are fitted with none British
standard or factory fitted locks which makes it so much easier for
criminals!
How to tell if you have a British standard lock?
Check for a Kite mark (which looks like a heart) on
your lock.
If you are still in doubt, contact us and not only will we check your locks for free, we'll also carry out a FREE home security survey! You can't say fairer than that.

If we are looking to have works completed on our house we would firstly Google the business name to view what platforms they are on and make sure they are not “here today and gone tomorrow” company and that they have a established business, then look at the reviews and check that they have them on many different platforms and websites and that they have a good a mix and quantity of customer's. Also we would check review dates, are the dates spread over years and are posted frequently and not in batch of a few months but nothing before and nothing after. Are they part of a 3rd party organisation like Checkatrader that checks that their Insurance and public liability is true and correct and that Police DBS is up to date and checked to be genuine, and they have certification that they skilled to carry out any works you have requested.

Sadly at Lockforce Locksmiths Leeds we are often called after a customer has previously had a bad experience of a Locksmith company, the Locksmith company they called upon was not checked and reviewed and as well as the cost very expensive and over charged the work was substandard and often they have refused to call back and rectify a lock problem they have fitted. Faulty uPVC window and door repairs.
We carry out repairs to both uPVC windows and doors to get them back
working the way they should so when first installed all our parts are stocked

A
common problem we come across at Lockforce Liverpool is a customer not being
able to lock or open their UPVC & Composite doors because of failed
mechanisms.
Firstly what is a mechanism? It's the strip of metal you see
within the door that the bolt and hook comes out of, integral to keeping you safe and secure.
There’s a number of causes to a mechanism failing but by far the
most common is people continuing to force the handle up to engage the bolt and
hooks. This occurs because the door has
misaligned by dropping and therefore the door and frame no longer line up as
they should and making it harder to engage everything.
With this you’re then
putting undue pressure on the gear box (brains of the mechanism) within the
mechanism and this leads to parts in the gear box either snapping off or
bending with the force and this leads to it failing. Sod’s law will tell you
that it will fail when trying to lock it late at night, leaving you with the
decision of either leaving your door unlocked overnight (not wise) and paying
for a locksmith to come and repair it out of hours which can be more costly. Or it
will fail to open from the locked position just as you’re getting ready to
leave for work, making you late whilst you call for a
locksmith to come out and gain entry and repair the problem.
Either situation is of great inconvenience and could leave you exposed. Your safety is our main concern here so please consider our recommendations at Lockforce
Liverpool, if you’re finding it more difficult to lift the handle and turn
the key then don’t delay, call your local, trusted Locksmith.
We would prefer to come round and adjust your doors by the hinge or toe/heeling
method at a lesser cost to you rather than the eventual mechanism fail at a greater expense and exposed safety.

board to secure the window or door whilst keeping the frame free from damage
caused by screws or bolts. The boards we use are OSB – Oriented strand Boards
these provide protection from the elements such and cold and rain as well whilst
the board is in place.

MPL Repairs by Lockforce Locksmiths Leeds

Pictured above is a Multi Point Locking
system removed from a front door in Holbeck Leeds, what happened here was the
customer went to open her door and turned the key in the lock to open which is
did, then went to pull down the handle to open the door and all that happened
was a noisy crack, the handle became floppy and the door remained shut.
Lockforce arrived on site and opened the door using our specialist bypass tools
and then removed the locking system to identify the make and model and identify
the broken parts. The middle section is called a gearbox and it was this that
had collapsed on the spindle. We removed the old and refit the new Multi Point
Gearbox and linked the rods together, tested out of the door then fitted in the
door and retested, all was good and the door was repaired. This lock failure
was due to wear and tear the unit was 25 years old and has been used constantly
nearly every day in that time
Some UPVC multi point locking systems
also have mortise keys not the standard Yale type euro locks , these systems
work the same way, lift the handle engage the locking system that may have
hooks, dead bolts, mushrooms or pins . However wear and tear and also badly cut
keys can cause wear and tear damage to the internal levers, always make sure
you get your original keys cut by a professional key cutter and never have a copy
of a key copied
The Multi point locking system pictured above is a very old locking
mechanism that is now discontinued, however it was not age or wear and tear
that broke this locking system is was the door alignment. Door alignment is a
common problem this is where the door has dropped and is no longer in line with
the keeps in the door frame and closing and locking the door had become
difficult, having to force the handle up before the key would turn to lock.
This puts extra strain on the system and usually causes a link to break.
Unfortunately with this system no longer available a new system and keep was
installed.
If you have trouble locking your front door, patio door, composite door
and you have to force the handle or the lock, contact a Locksmith a realignment
of your door is much cheaper option and will add many years to your multi point
locking system
